Introduction

Like many of the remote towns in outback Australia, Charleville commenced the Picnic Races soon after the town was established.  We have been racing since 1882 and it is most definitely in our blood. 

We have struggled through the hard times and celebrated the good with our community and that commitment to our town and people has kept us going now for the last 142 years. 

Our track recently reopened after a two and a half year closure whilst track remediation works were undertaken but now we are ready to race again.  We are looking forward to the 2024 racing season with days of thoroughbred racing, thrills, fun, fashion, and excitement.  We will celebrate the new and honour the old.

Many consider the Charleville Racecourse as the Jewel of outback racing, and we certainly agree.  The track, equine facilities, club building, services, complex facilities and gardens are what you would normally expect in large regional cities rather than the outback.
